A foil is a character in literature who highlights certain traits of the main character by contrasting them. For example, a coward helps show the hero’s bravery in a stronger light. For example, the ideas or behavior of the minor character might be used to highlight the weaknesses or strengths of the main character.
Choose either Parris, Putnam, or Giles and write a well-organized essay in which you show how he serves as a foil for John Proctor.
